YEWO
YEWO is a social enterprise + a jewelry design studio based in both Asheville, NC and Manchewe Village, Malawi. Every YEWO item is thoughtfully hand fabricated in their Malawi based workshop using both unique and traditional metal working techniques. By choosing to make products in the way they do, they directly create jobs in Malawi that encourage growth, financial stability, and a family-like workplace. In addition, a portion of YEWO sales are invested in local community development initiatives in Malawi.

'Muli' is a type of mushroom in Northern Malawi.

Each unique piece is made by hand in YEWO's solar-powered workshop in Malawi. No two pieces are identical— slight variations should be embraced.

Materials: Brass with sterling silver posts and clay or slate stones sourced in Malawi

Brass Care
Brass is a metal alloy comprised of copper and zinc. Known for its durability, brass has been used for centuries in Africa and is a sustainable alternative to gold. Today almost 90% of all brass in the world is recycled.

It is the nature of brass to evolve and tarnish over time. Some love this antiqued, darker look, while others prefer to keep their jewelry bright and shiny. Humidity, products on your skin, and your bodies natural chemistry are some of the things that speed up this process.

To avoid oxidation, remove jewelry before showering, working out, or using sprays of any kind. When not wearing your jewelry we recommend storing in a sealed bag in a dry area away from sunlight and heat.

Clean unwanted tarnish and darker spots using a polish pad. Simply buff with the pad until the tarnish is lifted and the piece becomes shiny again. If pieces become heavily tarnished, we recommend using ‘Brasso’ - an affordable cleaning product found at most hardware shops and is excellent for removing stubborn marks and tarnish. You can also use a baking soda and lemon paste.
